Can we stop putting AI on everything? It’s getting predatory.
- Search Engine Optimization - SEO
- Artificial Intelligence - AI
AI is an incredible tool when used well. But lately, it feels like it’s being slapped on everything just to jack up the price or sound impressive.
Nowhere is this more obvious than in SEO.
As AI continues to evolve, so do the scams. Some folks are coining new buzzwords and acronyms to confuse business owners and sell “AI-powered” SEO strategies that don’t actually mean anything.
Here are a few examples floating around right now:
👉 AEO – “Answer Engine Optimization.” This one’s based on a real concept, but scammers are pitching it like it’s something totally separate from traditional SEO. In reality, it should already be part of a good strategy.
👉 LLMO – “Large Language Model Optimization.” Sounds cutting-edge, but often it’s just an empty label used to make a basic service sound like rocket science.
👉 AIO – “AI Overview Optimization.” This plays on Google’s new AI Overviews, with agencies promising they can get you featured. Truth is, no one fully understands how that algorithm works yet — not even Google employees.
Same playbook, new buzzwords.
You’ll still see the classic red flags:
❌ Guaranteed rankings
❌ Secret techniques and “insider access”
❌ Outdated or black hat tactics
❌ Vague deliverables
❌ Promises of overnight results
Here’s what you should look for:
✅ Clear, honest communication
✅ Real strategies tied to your business goals
✅ Willingness to explain how AI (if used) actually helps
✅ A track record that speaks for itself
AI is just a tool. It’s not a shortcut, it’s not magic, and it doesn’t replace thoughtful strategy or actual expertise.
If someone can’t explain what they’re doing in plain English – or your preferred language ;) – they probably don’t know either.
